Our Waters. Our Future. Have Your Say.
The Government of Norfolk Island has released information to assist the community in considering the proposed expansion of the Norfolk Marine Park.
The proposal would expand the Marine Park to approximately 430,792 km², with approximately 94% proposed as a Category II National Park Zone and 6% as a Special Purpose Zone surrounding Norfolk Island.
GNI has prepared a comprehensive General Assembly Preparation Paper to support informed community participation and identify the questions requiring answers about the proposal, including conservation evidence, fishing, zoning, enforcement, Cascade Pier, economic impacts, local rights and the future governance of Norfolk Island's surrounding waters.
The Preparation Paper does not predetermine the position of the General Assembly or the Government of Norfolk Island. Its purpose is to support informed questioning, community participation and the development of GNI's subsequent submission.
