Our Governance Charter – For Norfolk Island. For All of Us.
Adopted by the People of Norfolk Island on 30 May 2026, this Charter provides a framework for governance that is community-informed, transparent, and accountable.Adopted by the People of Norfolk Island on 30 May 2026, this Charter provides a framework for governance that is community-informed, transparent, and accountable.
The Charter is not intended to replace existing structures. Instead, it sets out a way to ensure Norfolk Islanders are included in ALL decisions that affect our lives today and in the future.
Our principle is simple: Norfolk Island is strongest when the people who live here, care for this place, and share responsibility for its future have a voice in the decisions that affect the Island.
The Charter supports democratic participation, responsible stewardship, and the protection of Norfolk Island's unique culture, heritage, and identity, while recognising the importance of stable services, effective administration, and practical cooperation.
Above all, it reflects a shared commitment to preserving what makes Norfolk Island unique while ensuring the Island continues to thrive for future generations.
