General Assembly Adopts Referendum Law and Governance Amendments

The Government of Norfolk Island has published the formal decisions and matters recorded by the General Assembly at its meeting held at Rawson Hall on 22 August 2026.
The decisions include:
• Adoption of the Referendum Enabling Clause
• Minor operational amendments relating to community submissions and official General Assembly records
• Change of the final General Assembly meeting for 2026 to 27 November 2026
• Adoption of the Government of Norfolk Island Referendum Law 2026
The Referendum Law is the first substantive Law adopted under the Governance Charter framework and establishes a formal process through which electors may participate in referenda.
